Alienware’s idea of a Computer:
Alienware’s Area 51 ALX PC’s are the companies ultimate benchmark desktop computers ($8000USD for this one). This particular unit came with three nVidea Geforce 280 GTX graphic cards (YES THREE, Pretty crazy!), each carrying a whopping 1GB dedicated memory per card. I think the glossy black Alienware cases are beautiful, espicially after they come out of the box. On the front panel the ALX has the common two USB ports with one Firewire and the Audio and Microphone Jack.
Behind the classic Alienware case there is the nicely fitted Blu-Ray Multi-Combo DVD Burner and a Multi-Card Reader. Pretty cool how the door opens and glides to the other side of the PC.
Behind the glorious front part the back of the Alienware ALX includes a number of out-ports. The upper part inculdes SIX USB ports, one FireWire, SPDIF, eSATA, 2 Gigabit Ethernet Connections and the standard 7.1 Surround sound jacks. Also two P/S ports for the oldstyle mouse and keyboards. Then the Bottom contains the over-the-top three GPU’s (They can support 6 monitors in total).
This is a picture of what $8000 worth of components gets you. One of the stand out features of these ALX systems is the slide out hard drive bays, they just slide out. Unlike having to pop them out manually in your average system. Then there’s the three power thirsty video cards with a RAID set of HD’s and a QUAD DUO CPU, all of which require a huge amount of juice. The 1200W power supply does the job of course. Then under liquid coolent box is the Intel Core 2 EXTREME QX9770 3.2GHz 12MB Cache 1600 Mhz FSB CPU. Then you may be able to see the four Corsair Dominator Overclocked Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600Mhz 1GB Ram Sticks (you can’t fit anymore than this). Also there’s actually two power cables coming from each GPU.. crazy.. this shows how much power they actually can consume. They are all connected in SLI-mode by that small SLI piece.
The ALX generated a frame rate of 200 on the Counter-Strike video stress test. Which is more than sufficient, since the human eye can’t really see any more than about 30 frames per second…
This post only shows some of the many features that this PC has. There indeed is much more that has been put into this system and you can check it all out on there site, linked at the bottom of the post. All in all the Alienware Area 51 ALX system is an extremely powerful and capable PC. It is built with innovation in mind and has awesome features. This is a computer most of us can only dream about. However I believe this is not the most highest spec PC Alienware can build. Check it out from there site Here. Do you know of any better systems?
