Now the worlds fastest Super Computer – the Cray XT Jaguar pumps out an amazing 1.64 quadrillion mathematical calculations per second. That’s 1.64 petaflops. After a recent technological overhaul the Cray XT Jaguar is now powered by 45,000 quad-core AMD Opteron processors that use 362 Terabytes of memory (362000 gigabytes).
The Cray XT Jaguar is located at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory where it will hopefully create scientific breakthroughs during the day, and succumb to Crysis at night. It will be used for non classified research and has the capability to chew up an enormous 284 gigabytes of data per second. And its storage capacity is 750 terabytes!
