I found the video rather interesting as I am indeed buying an xbox 360 very soon, and in my opinion the graphics on the PS3 don’t seem all the much better than the 360’s. They game used (Resident Evil 5 ) to compare the two platforms definitely gave each system a run for its money.

Graphics wise the PS3 is the better. However considering the price difference between the Box and PS3 you would probably be better off with a Xbox. In New Zealand the Xbox 360 at its cheapest price retails for $299. Then the PS3 at its cheapest is $699. One reason why the PS3 is that much more expensive is because it has the blu-ray drive, but in my opinion something like that is not needed at this stage as it only promotes better qaulity movies..

He shrinks XBOX 360, PS3, Wii, and other video game consoles into a laptop-like portable device. How cool is that! No longer will you be stuck with card or board (dare I say bored?) games while on holiday - now you get the full-on experience of your console games. Here’s how he does it: first he cuts up the circuit board of the console until it is very small - so small the board can fit in his hand. Then, he designs and builds a cool looking case with a machine tool driven by computer numerical control. And finally, he fits everything inside the small case - mission accomplished. Aside from the latest consoles, he also makes the older ones portable for nostalgia, like PlayStation 2, Sega Genesis and the N64.

Here’s a video of Ben demonstrating his latest piece, the XBOX 360 portable (which is lighter than his sister’s cat!):

The yet to be released AMD Phenom II X4 processor has an incredible overclocking capability. On air cooling alone the Phenom II was able to reach around 4Ghz at 1.55V at a temperature of around 32ºC. Then a water cooled model at 1.6V was able to break the 4Ghz limit. It was able to reach 4.4Ghz using a vapochill setup which reached temperatures of around 39ºC. Then with the LN2 setup the Phenom II reached an amazing in excess speed of 5Ghz and boot speed of 6Ghz+

The main problem with overclocking processors is the insane temperatures they can reach. The Phenom II is well within safe temperatures that wont compromize the life and performance of the processor. I’ve seen some intel processors reach up to 100ºC!! So the Phenom is deffinately doing well for itself. And combine it with some of the new Radeon 4800 Graphics cards and an AMD 7 series chipset based motherboards, you’ll have one of the ultimate gaming/performance rigs out on the market.

It will be used for non classified research and has the capability to chew up an enormous 284 gigabytes of data per second. And its storage capacity is 750 terabytes!

The PicoP is an Ultra miniature projector capable of producing full colour, high-resolution images but still being small enough and low power enough to work with an accessory that it would connect to, like a Mobile device or an iPod.

An accessory Pico projector turns photos, videos, and other content into big viewing experiences that can be shared with others. Projected content is delivered to the accessory projector from common video out connections on cell phones, personal media players, laptops, digital cameras and other mobile devices. Accessory projectors leverage Microvision’s PicoP display engine which at its heart, contains Microvision’s patented MEMS scanner. Other technology components include, laser light sources, optics, and electronics. These components are brought to life using Microvision’s proprietary software and expertise.

I think this really is a great innovative piece of technology. Everything is getting smaller and smaller these days. Soon this projector might even be imbedded into a cellphone or laptop! Would that be amazing? The PicoP projector will be availiable sometime next year. Heres a nice video showing the PicoP in action:

The new Intel Nehalem Chip will save around $2 Billion in energy cost for up an amazing 20 terabyte hours. This microprocessor has been designed with the environment in mind. The chip does not lose any performance from being so energy efficient which should appeal to a wider range of customers. Intel named the processor “Nehalem” it follows after the Intel Core 2 and Quad series of Processors.

One of the head engineers at Intel said “Going into this project … we insisted on energy efficiency … and power, adding more processing speed to a chip often requires pulling a lot more energy. Meeting this challenge was not an easy one”.

The Nehalem engineers had to alter the processors clock cycle and its operating voltage, both of these use a lot of energy. They point out the biggest energy cut came from reducing the usage on an idle machine as a lot of a processors life is when its idle..

Though you can’t make such an improvement without having some set backs. The catch is the chip still needs to be active enough so that it can receive instructions on command. Usually, processors are fully powered during idle stages in order to receive any instructions. But not anymore, with the new Nehalem microprocessor hopefully computers will save much more power. If it has a good performance rating I would definitely consider purchasing one (depending on the price of course) but if it also saves just that bit more in electricity its probably worth it in the long run aswell. Here’s some very impressive figures:

After a recent technological overhaul the Cray XT Jaguar is now powered by 45,000 quad-core AMD Opteron processors that use 362 Terabytes of memory (362000 gigabytes).

The Cray XT Jaguar is located at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory where it will hopefully create scientific breakthroughs during the day, and succumb to Crysis at night. It will be used for non classified research and has the capability to chew up an enormous 284 gigabytes of data per second.

Alienware’s Area 51 ALX PC’s are the companies ultimate benchmark desktop computers ($8000USD for this one). This particular unit came with three nVidea Geforce 280 GTX graphic cards (YES THREE, Pretty crazy!), each carrying a whopping 1GB dedicated memory per card. I think the glossy black Alienware cases are beautiful, espicially after they come out of the box. On the front panel the ALX has the common two USB ports with one Firewire and the Audio and Microphone Jack.

Behind the classic Alienware case there is the nicely fitted Blu-Ray Multi-Combo DVD Burner and a Multi-Card Reader. Pretty cool how the door opens and glides to the other side of the PC.

Rear

Behind the glorious front part the back of the Alienware ALX includes a number of out-ports. The upper part inculdes SIX USB ports, one FireWire, SPDIF, eSATA, 2 Gigabit Ethernet Connections and the standard 7.1 Surround sound jacks. Also two P/S ports for the oldstyle mouse and keyboards. Then the Bottom contains the over-the-top three GPU’s (They can support 6 monitors in total).

Inside

This is a picture of what $8000 worth of components gets you. One of the stand out features of these ALX systems is the slide out hard drive bays, they just slide out. Unlike having to pop them out manually in your average system. Then there’s the three power thirsty video cards with a RAID set of HD’s and a QUAD DUO CPU, all of which require a huge amount of juice. The 1200W power supply does the job of course. Then under liquid coolent box is the Intel Core 2 EXTREME QX9770 3.2GHz 12MB Cache 1600 Mhz FSB CPU. Then you may be able to see the four Corsair Dominator Overclocked Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600Mhz 1GB Ram Sticks (you can’t fit anymore than this). Also there’s actually two power cables coming from each GPU.. crazy.. this shows how much power they actually can consume. They are all connected in SLI-mode by that small SLI piece.

Conclusion

The ALX generated a frame rate of 200 on the Counter-Strike video stress test. Which is more than sufficient, since the human eye can’t really see any more than about 30 frames per second…

This post only shows some of the many features that this PC has. There indeed is much more that has been put into this system and you can check it all out on there site, linked at the bottom of the post. All in all the Alienware Area 51 ALX system is an extremely powerful and capable PC. It is built with innovation in mind and has awesome features. This is a computer most of us can only dream about. However I believe this is not the most highest spec PC Alienware can build. Check it out from there site Here. Do you know of any better systems?

Lately we have gone through a lot of rumors on the web saying that Apple is soon going to launch a Tablet computer which we all love to see. Lets not forget that fact the steve has been successful in almost all of their releases. Combine it with the rumors that we are soon to expect a new version of the Macbook and the result is a Macbook Touch.

Some sources claim that Apple is planning to launch its new Macbook Touch on an event that is to be held on October 14. There is no official word on it and it could be anything.

The Macbook Touch has been an anticipation all long after the iPhone, especially since a Mac Fan-boy published some mockups of the Macbook Touch at SlashGear earlier this year.
