Although broadband seems to deliver quite a bit of speed, for some users in developing countries still have the speed problem. Now, orkut seems to be very popular and fast growing social network and major part of Orkut’s visitors come from developing countries. So here’s is how to surf on a low bandwidth version of Orkut.
1. Â Login to Orkut and you will automatically land on your personalized profile page and the URL should look similar to “http://www.orkut.com/Main#Home.aspx”

2. Now, look for a link called “Settings” located at the bottom left hand corner way below you profile pic and right after the “events” link if you don’t have any applications. It would look similar to the picture below!

3. After you have your settings page loaded, in the bold font you should see a setting called “low bandwidth” and select the “show the low bandwidth version of orkut” radio button or non-technical users might call it the “round button”.

4. After selecting the “round or radio button”, don’t forget to click “save changes“.

One immediate change i have observed in switching to “low bandwidth” is that i hides the avatars in scrapbook.

If you have any problems, leave a comment or “thanks” would be really appreciated!

While browsing through TechCrunch found this interesting news on how you could text this service and get real answers.
ChaCha is like having a smart friend you can call or text for answers on your cell phone anytime for free! ChaCha works with virtually every provider and allows people with any mobile phone device - from basic flip phones to advanced smart phones - to ask any question in conversational English and receive an accurate answer as a text message in just a few minutes.
What’s your question?
Simply text your question to 242242 (spells ‘ChaCha’) or call 1-800-2ChaCha (800-224-2242) from your mobile phone to ask any question. What are you waiting for? Ask away!
Easiest Access to Information While on the Go
ChaCha is conversational, fun, and easy to use. Simply ask your question like you are talking to a smart friend and ChaCha’s advanced technology instantly routes it to the most knowledgeable person on that topic in our Guide community. Your answer is then returned to your phone as a text message within a few minutes.
Answers, Not Links
ChaCha is much more helpful to mobile phone users than typical computer-driven search engines. Our innovative search technology provides quick, helpful answers - not thousands of links - to important (and sometimes irreverent) questions. And as the mobile search continues to grow at an incredible pace, the high level of interest in ChaCha’s answers “clearly indicates that mobile users are finding the service to be of real benefit” according to Vikrant Gandhi, senior analyst for Frost & Sullivan.
Hope you like this service, Unfortunately, i am in New Zealand and it will cost money to text to US. Please share your comment below!
